I am a translator working from English and French into my native tongue, Finnish. A great deal of my work consists of pharmaceutical texts, e.g. translating and editing of EMA texts (SPCs, labels, PLs). Unfortunately I spend many hours answering the questions of my clients – questions that could be avoided if the Finnish EMA templates were better…! This blog is an attempt to create discussion about these templates, the language of EMA texts in general and, ultimately, to improve the quality of the texts.
Besides I try to gather here information that may be useful in translating pharmaceutical and medical texts in general.
I have been working as an independent translator for about 20 years. I hold a MA degree in Translation (French, English, Finnish). During my studies, I took courses in medical translation and later some courses in Basics of Medicine at the Open University.
In addition to the above mentioned pharmaceutical texts, I translate e.g. medical questionnaires, protocols of clinical trials as well as instructions for use of medical instruments. I also translate use instructions for different technical devices.
